The World is a Dangerous Place to Live

Written March 8, 2017

“The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.”  ~Albert Einstein

“A country without borders or laws cannot survive” ~ Ronald Reagan

I want to start by saying I am not a racist and I do support legal immigration. What I am against is the bad that’s come to be associated with immigrants. This is a long one, I know. Please read it to the end and don’t skip over this one. We need to gain perspective and have rational discussions on hot button topics like this.

As I read those quotes, I couldn’t help but think of two major problems we have in America right now. Both have one thing in common. Immigration. Immigration of refugees from war torn Middle Eastern countries and the illegal immigrants coming from Central and South America. The United States of America is a nation founded by immigrants and has been built by immigrants, but we cannot handle immigration the way it is right now.

For centuries, people from all over the world have come to America for a multitude of reasons, but primarily with one goal in mind. To live a better life. It wasn’t until the late 1800’s that we began limiting who came here. In those days, if you came to the US via Ellis Island in New York, you would see the Statue of Liberty. Back then specific groups of people were targeted. When they came to America as an immigrant, they needed to demonstrate that they were able to work and earn money, that they were healthy and they were not going to be a public charge(a burden to the government).

Later on in the early 1900’s they needed to pledge allegiance to our country and it’s laws. They needed to prove that they weren’t an anarchist, fascist, or communist. Basically they needed to prove that they weren’t going to launch an attack on the government. Chinese, Germans, Irish, people with mental health illnesses (called “lunatics” then), people with a lack of education, infectious disease carriers and anarchists were known to be turned away. In 1920’s, quotas were set to limit how many immigrants came here from various countries. This quota proportional to our population in the U.S. as of the 1920 census. Why was this done? To protect We the People and our way of life.

Starting roughly around the late 1980’s, a series of other laws and amendments had been passed regarding immigration and refugees. After the 9/11 attack, these laws were revamped again, especially since a couple of those terrorists overstayed their visas. Which brings me to 1 of today’s immigration issues. Refugees and others coming here from Middle Eastern countries.

For those who are unaware of this, there is a group of people who want to take over not only Western European countries but America as well. They have a particular ideology that believes we are infidels, or basically sinners. Yes, I’m referring to Radical Islamic Terrorists. Yes, I said Islamic but they are a minority of a much larger Islamic religion. Islam actually believes in peace.

These radical terrorists are also known jihadists. A jihadi, or jihadist, is a person who believes that an Islamic state should govern the entire community of Muslims. This belief justifies violent conflict with those who stand in its way. Although jihad is a concept that can be found in the Quran, the terms jihadi, jihadi ideology and jihadi movement are modern concepts related to the rise of political Islam in the 19th and 20th centuries. Their basic belief is that they need to establish a caliphate and impose sharia law because Allah commands it. They believe they are the ones to purify and purge the Earth of anyone who disagrees with them. As i said in the previous paragraph, they are a minority of a larger religion that actually believes in peace. I repeat, the majority of Muslims are peace loving. This small minority believe these radical views.

After doing a refresher history lesson, these radical terrorists and their goals are reminiscent of the medieval crusades and the WWII holocaust.  All have one basic goal – the purification of a race and the eradication of a another who they felt were impure. A topic for another day. My point to this is that these people seek to overthrow and control the rest of the world by killing those who do not share their beliefs.

Allow me to reiterate my point. There are many contemporary Muslims and others who believe that Islam and politics are compatible. Violence plays NO part in most of these views. Jihadis are a narrow subset who interpret Islam, and the concept of jihad, to mean that war must be waged against states and groups who in their eyes have corrupted the ideals of Islamic governance. It is this narrow subset who believes in violence. However, there’s one more problem. These jihadis are spreading their hatred beyond their country’s borders. They are spreading it all over the world by any means necessary.

The travel restriction is from certain countries that are war torn countries and those people cannot be checked out well, if at all, because their governments are in a state of chaos, if they even exist. It’s not a Muslim ban even tho the bulk of those people are Muslim. Call me a paranoid racist, I want to feel safe in my own country. If that involves restricting or banning a flock of sheep coming into this country with the wolf in sheep’s clothing among the flock, so be it.

As far as illegal immigration from Mexico, Central and South America there’s not much we don’t already know.  The main reasons for people coming from those areas is economic opportunity. The living wage for these folks there is barely liveable.  However many of these immigrants do not go thru the proper channels to be here plus it puts a strain on our economy because many receive government assistance that our own citizens are truly entitled to. Over the years millions have crossed our southern border and have stayed. There is also the economic opportunity to make money by selling drugs. Each year, more and more communities are poisoned by drugs and, sadly, each year more and more of our youth die from drug overdoses. Do you want some stranger coming into your home and poisoning your family?

To clarify, “illegal immigration to the United States is the act by foreign nationals violating United States immigration laws by either entering the country without government permission (i.e., a visa) or after being lawfully admitted, remaining within the country beyond their period of authorized admission as a non-immigrant”(Wikipedia).

One does not need to look much look much further than Europe to see how well open borders and mass migration has worked. Europe has changed socially and politically not to mention physically.

Look, I’m all for helping refugees who are persecuted and fleeing their war torn countries, but at what cost to Americans? What about our safety from radical Islamic terrorists and drug dealers from these countries? What about the money that comes out of the hard working American that pays for their government assistance? Yes, this comes from the taxes come out of your paycheck, stuff you buy at a store, gas you put in your car, even your utilities and so much more. These taxes are supposed to go to your cities and towns for hospitals, law enforcement, and much more.

Judges, politicians, the media, pundits and protesters are getting this “ban” all wrong. They are saying things like it’s unconstitutional and racist. As a point of information, the Constitution was written on paper and our Founding Fathers intended future generations to follow what’s on that piece of paper, nothing more. The Constitution and the President Trump’s executive order are not for interpretation whether it’s political or otherwise. Both are following the letter of law, despite what many may think. Remember when President Obama did this very same thing? Was he a racist too? The Constitution also covers only United States citizens, not immigrants who are fleeing their land and looking to become US citizens.

I think that the further we get from 9/11/2001 the more we forget the events of that day. Thousands were killed and even more were wounded, many of whom will be scarred for life – internally and externally. Tho the events that day were the worst this country has seen since the attack on Pearl Harbor, it’s not just that event. Similarly, it’s not just Orlando, San Bernardino, Dallas and other incidents that have happened. The FBI is currently investigation people in all 50 states(more than 1 in some states) who are involved in terrorism on some level. These people come from the very lands that are terrorist breeding grounds.

Thought for the day… We need to but the brakes on so we can re-examine and fix our vetting techniques. The system is overwhelmed and over worked trying to keep up while terrorists or potential terrorists have slipped into the country already. We need to do this before another attack happens like in New York City, Orlando, San Bernardino, Dallas, or your hometown. If we can not get right our very sovereignty is under threat.
