Romantic relationships can be a painfully difficult area of our lives. In the beginning two people look at each other with rose colored glasses. We think the other person can do no wrong. Since we don’t want to look bad in each others eyes we do silly things like not passing gas in front of the other person. Needless to say we end up with tummy aches from the buildup of gas. We also do nice things for each other, poke fun and call each other cute pet names like honey or snookie.
Then something happens or something is said, and we fall out of love with the other person. Then maybe one of us does stuff out of anger, hurt or spite. Maybe we just stuff our feelings deep inside ourselves. Despite that we still love that person. Where we have a problem is that we think we can’t possibly go on living without the other person. We think the world will come to the end when in reality it won’t.
There’s one important fact that happens in the beginning of the relationship that even I forget about when things get difficult. We WANTED to be with each other. No one held a gun to our head saying, “Date me or else “, at least not usually. The reasons we get into relationships are as many as the stars in the sky. Usually it’s because we like the person, we see something special in that person, we don’t like to be or want to be alone for the rest of our lives or we think we need to have someone in our life to validate us or make us happy.
The truth is that if we really take a look at it and our insides we’ll see that we don’t need anyone to make us happy. Matter of fact no one can truly make us happy but ourselves. We need to consider our reasons for being in our relationships. When we’re in a romantic relationship another important thing we need to consider is that we should want to be with that person thru the good and the bad. Ask yourself this, if this person becomes deathly ill can or will you still stay by their side without wavering and support them until they are well?
Thought for the day: When you’re in a romantic relationship ask yourself if you WANT to be with this person or do you feel like you NEED this relationship? By answering that question alone you can either save yourself a heartbreak or you’ll save your relationship from going down the drain.
