Unexpressed Emotions

Unexpressed emotions are feelings like anger, sadness, etc. we feel towards someone that lacks a resolution, or ending. When we are in a fight with someone, we may be feeling hurt or afraid and repress it(keep in check or bottled up). Instead of expressing our hurt or fear we lash out in anger. This is, in many cases, a problem that can destroy any kind of relationship whether it’s a romantic, family, or friendship.

Anyone at any time can be holding onto these unexpressed emotions. Some of reasons we do this are because we fear our feelings, what we’ll do or say, conflict or that we’ll be judged. The problem with this is that when we suppressed all that junk we are the ones who suffer.

When we stuff our emotions, they can turn into resentments very quickly. Before we know it, our mind and heart is affected with thoughts like, “She should know this. He should be doing that.” Eventually, something happens and the volcano explodes spewing those emotions all over.

I, too, stuff those emotions until I explode. I look a lot like Regan from the 1970’s movie The Exorcist. Figuratively, I look like her in the famous scene where her head spins around while spewing projectile vomit, only I spew word vomit.

When emotions are not expressed they can affect the body. It can be something as simple as an upset stomach, acne breakout, or a decreased immunity to cold and flu bugs. Or it can be as complicated as a heart attack, stroke and even cancer. Occasionally, one will turn to some form of addiction(drugs, alcohol, shopping, gambling, sex, food) to cover up, run from, or drown their emotions of guilt, self doubt and self loathing.

To work thru these emotions, learn to love yourself and how to create your own happiness. Also know that you are good enough for any person and that you don’t need to please anyone but yourself.

Thought for the day: If you fear your emotions, remember these acronyms – FEAR – False Evidence Appearing to be Real, F**k(or Forget) Everything And Run, or Face Everything And Run. Which will you choose to do today
