“It all starts with you.” ~Trent Shelton
A friend shared a video on social media that this gentleman did a few years ago. Trent is a motivational speaker who has done numerous videos about building self esteem, self confidence, having healthy relationships and so on. He ends most all of his videos by saying, “It all starts with you.”
So what is it that starts with you? Change. Trent talked about the pain we often feel in our hearts and to alleviate that pain all we need to do is change whatever it is that’s hurting us. This reminds me of the quote by Tony Robbins, “Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.”
So if we’re hurting why don’t we change? Simple. Our fear keeps us from growing, ending relationships, changing careers, beginning new friendships, or attempting anything out of the ordinary. You may fear what might happen if you end a relationship, change jobs etc. It’s normal to fear the future because, well, let’s face it, there’s always a chance of failure and that’s the last we want to do.
While it’s normal to fear failure, having to much fear or irrational fear is not healthy. There’s something we don’t realize when we’re stuck in that pain and fear of change. While we’re thinking of all the bad things that can happen, we don’t think of all the good things that can happen. Is failure a possibility? Of course but if we don’t try we’ll never know if we’ll succeed. Besides, even if we do fail, we learn and grow from that failure.
Thought for the day: If you want a better life for yourself, you need to makes changes once in a while and that change starts with you.
